Open Letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu: A Call for Accountability in Ekiti State

Dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,

We write to commend your administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Nigerians and your ongoing support for the development of Ekiti State. Since your inauguration as President, Ekiti State has received substantial federal allocations and other forms of support aimed at fostering growth and development. However, it is with a heavy heart that we bring to your attention the glaring mismanagement and lack of tangible progress in our state under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

It is no secret that the Governor has relied heavily on media hype to create an illusion of progress in Ekiti State. From dubious awards to unsubstantiated claims of achievement, it is evidently clear that these accolades lack substance and do not reflect the lived realities of Ekiti residents. A glaring example of this disconnect was the recent wedding of the Governor’s daughter, which was conspicuously held in Ibadan, Oyo State. The decision to hold such a significant event outside Ekiti is a clear indictment of the deplorable state of our roads and other infrastructure.

The roads leading to Ekiti State remain in a dire condition, a situation that not only hampers economic growth but also endangers the lives of residents and visitors. While the federal government has made considerable efforts to provide resources to Ekiti, the state government has failed to translate these into meaningful development. The completion of the Ekiti State airport is another example of a project riddled with controversy. Despite the fanfare surrounding the completion announcement, the airport remains non-operational, with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) refusing to approve it for aircraft landing due to unresolved issues.

Mr. President, the people of Ekiti State are disappointed and unhappy. The absence of accountability and transparency in the state’s leadership undermines the trust we have in your government. It is particularly disheartening that while you have worked tirelessly to allocate resources equitably, these efforts are being sabotaged by a governor who has prioritized personal aggrandizement over the collective good of our people.

Moreover, the federal roads traversing Ekiti State remain abandoned, a situation that paints your administration in a poor light, despite the huge resources from the federal government to Ekiti State. We urge you to prioritize these critical infrastructural needs to ensure that Ekiti is not left behind in the broader national development agenda. Neglecting these roads further isolates our state, fosters economic stagnation, and deepens the hardships faced by our people.

We appeal to you, as a leader committed to transparency and good governance, to hold Governor Biodun Oyebanji accountable for the resources entrusted to his administration. Ekiti people deserve to see the tangible benefits of the federal government’s interventions in their lives. We also call on you to take swift action to address the federal infrastructure deficits in the state to demonstrate your administration’s commitment to equity and fairness.

Mr. President, your legacy as a transformative leader is one that history will judge. Do not allow the inefficiency and mismanagement of Governor Oyebanji’s administration to tarnish your efforts to build a better Nigeria. The people of Ekiti State look to you for intervention and justice in ensuring that their resources are managed effectively and that their voices are heard.

Thank you for your attention and continued dedication to the progress of our nation.

Yours faithfully,
Abimbola O. Olawumi
A Patriotic Ekiti Indigene and an Advocate for good governance.
