Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo and former Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), was elected as the Union’s National President on Saturday. The election took place at the NURTW Zonal Secretariat on Osogbo/Ikirun road, with Akinsanya running unopposed.
Delegates from the four Southwest states—Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti—participated in the voting process during the Union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference. Acting National President Aliyu Issa-Ore oversaw the event, explaining that according to the Union’s constitution, the zone responsible for the national president position nominates a candidate to be presented to the national body.
Mrs. Adedamola Salam, representing the acting NURTW President and Head of Finance at the Union’s National Headquarters in Abuja, confirmed that the Southwest zone had fully complied with constitutional requirements in electing Akinsanya. Alongside him, Tajudeen Agbede was elected Vice President for the Southwest, while Akeem Adeosun was chosen as a Trustee from the zone.
Upon taking the oath of office, Akinsanya, surrounded by family and associates, called for unity within the Union. He said, “I have forgiven everyone who may have wronged me, and I hope those I may have wronged will forgive me too. This is our Union, and we must remain committed to protecting it and ensuring it continues to support our livelihoods.
