Ilorin, Kwara State – In a devastating incident on Friday, no fewer than 60 people lost their lives in a fatal auto crash at Oko-Olowo, along the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway. The accident, which resulted in a massive inferno, left victims trapped as the vehicles involved were engulfed in flames.
Eyewitnesses and emergency responders described the scene as horrific, with bodies charred beyond recognition. The cause of the accident is yet to be officially determined, but preliminary reports suggest that a collision between multiple vehicles may have triggered the fire.
Rescue operations were immediately launched by local authorities, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), police, and other emergency services. However, the intensity of the fire made it difficult to save lives or recover victims promptly.
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers of Nigeria’s highways, particularly the Ilorin-Jebba route, which has been notorious for accidents due to its high traffic volume and road conditions. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to road safety regulations to prevent further loss of lives.
More details are expected as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
