Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Sunday disclosed that  they  have rescued an American lady, who was lured to Nigeria by her fraudulent Facebook lover and detained in a Lagos hotel since the past 16 months.

In a statement by the police, the victim was identified as retired civil servant, who hailed  from Washington DC, USA.

She was lured to Nigeria on  February 13 last year by one Imo State-born Chukwuebuka Kasi Obiaku whom she met on Facebook.

Obiaku, a graduate of Business Administration and Management, is an alleged Internet fraudster, who had defrauded both unsuspecting  local and international members of the public.

After successfully luring the woman to Nigeria, police said, Obiaruka deceitfully married her on 15th May 15, 2019 but held her captive in a hotel thereafter, extorting monies, totalling $48,000 from her.

Furthermore, Obiaruka was accused of forcefully collecting and taking control of the victim’s credit and debit cards and equally operated her bank accounts, which included the receipt of her monthly retirement benefits and allowances for more than a year now.

The police also accused the suspect of using the victim as a front to defraud her associates and other foreign nationals and companies.

However, luck came her way when a public spirited Nigerian tipped off police operatives attached to the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Ogun State Annex, who quickly rescued her.

The police said the suspect would be charged to court at the end of investigation and prosecuted.
