Less than 48 hours before the off-cycle gubernatorial election in Ondo State, three candidates have stepped down from the race and endorsed the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
The candidates, representing the Accord Party (AP), the National Rescue Movement (NRM), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), announced their withdrawal during a solidarity visit to Governor Aiyedatiwa. Ajibola Falaye, the Accord Party’s governorship candidate, spoke on behalf of the group, citing the governor’s exceptional leadership and commitment to the development of Ondo State as the reasons for their decision.
Unified Support for Progress
Falaye praised Aiyedatiwa’s accomplishments in office, noting that his administration had brought significant progress to the state within a short time. Speaking on behalf of his peers, he said, “We have been watching him, and his doors are always open to all. His inclusive approach to governance and dedication to the welfare of residents are evident.”
Highlighting the governor’s achievements in security, Falaye added, “The State has been experiencing relative peace under his watch, which reflects his commitment to safeguarding the lives of our people.” He also emphasized the shared progressive values that the Accord Party, NRM, and ADC find in alignment with the governor’s administration.
Joining Falaye at the visit were Jenyo Ataunoko, the NRM candidate, and Olaide Rasheed Ibrahim, the deputy governorship candidate of the ADC. They reiterated their confidence in Aiyedatiwa’s leadership and pledged their support for his re-election bid.
Aiyedatiwa Welcomes Endorsement
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude for the endorsement, describing the candidates’ decision as a remarkable act of statesmanship. “This move demonstrates a shared vision for the growth and stability of Ondo State,” he remarked, vowing to continue delivering impactful governance for the people.
The solidarity visit was attended by notable figures, including the Governor of Benue State, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, and the Director General of the APC Campaign Organization, Abiola Makinde, who joined Governor Aiyedatiwa in welcoming the three candidates and their respective parties.
This development has further bolstered the APC’s confidence ahead of Saturday’s election, with political analysts suggesting it may significantly sway voter sentiment in favor of the ruling party.
