Obi Cubana, in partnership with DAG Bajaj Auto Nigeria, has launched a showroom for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered tricycles.
The goal is to reduce transportation costs for both drivers and passengers, and the unveiling was held at Enviable Transport’s head office showroom on Ikorodu-Sagamu Road, Ikorodu.
During the launch event, Chief Iyiegbu said, “We want to meet the transportation needs of the people with ease and convenience.”
The location was chosen for its world-class infrastructure and accessibility.
Mr. Ituma Chukwuemeka, CEO of Enviable Transport, said the company has been working to address the impact of rising fuel prices on the transportation sector. They had previously launched electric vehicles in Abuja, but now focus on CNG-powered tricycles as CNG is five to seven times cheaper than petrol.
Chukwuemeka said, “CNG offers significant savings.” He added that drivers can save up to ₦600 daily as CNG reduces the cost to as low as ₦100.
Enviable Transport has implemented several payment schemes to make the CNG tricycles accessible to drivers. These options allow drivers to start working and gradually pay off the cost of the vehicle.
Mr. Sijesh Radhakrishnan, Business Head of DAG Bajaj Two Wheelers in Nigeria, highlighted DAG Bajaj’s dominant market share in the Nigerian motorcycle and tricycle sectors.
The partnership with Enviable Transport aims to further revolutionize the transport sector with CNG-powered tricycles.
DAG Bajaj’s regional manager, Mr. Puranik Vishwesh, explained the advantages of the new CNG-powered tricycles, which feature dual-fuel technology.
This allows drivers to switch between CNG and petrol, providing both an eco-friendly and cost-effective option for transportation.
Vishwesh said drivers could save up to ₦7,000 daily on fuel costs with CNG, and the cost of the tricycle could be recouped within three months due to the fuel savings.
With the increasing availability of CNG refueling stations across Lagos and other regions, DAG Bajaj and Enviable Transport are confident that CNG technology will transform Nigeria’s transportation landscape.
