The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant arrest, catching a 48-year-old businessman, Christian Ogbuji, with 817 wraps of cocaine worth over N4 billion at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja.
This isn’t Ogbuji’s first run-in with the law; he was previously convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment or a fine of N3 million for ingesting 93 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.986kg upon arrival from Uganda via Addis Ababa in May 2023.
Ogbuji attempted to sneak past NDLEA operatives by leaving his backpack containing the cocaine on the conveyor belt, but vigilant officers intercepted him and conducted a secondary search.
During interrogation, Ogbuji revealed he had obtained a new international passport to continue his illicit activities.
NDLEA’s Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, commended the officers for their excellent work, emphasizing that this seizure sends a strong message to international drug cartels.
The agency remains committed to disrupting drug cartel activities in Nigeria.
It’s worth noting that the NDLEA has been actively working to combat drug trafficking in Nigeria, with several recent arrests and seizures, including the interception of 12 consignments of cocaine at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.
