In a historic ceremony held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Oyo State Secretariat in Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde officially presented the instruments of office to the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade. The event, which took place on Monday, marked the formal recognition of Oba Owoade as the paramount ruler of the Oyo Kingdom and a significant custodian of Yoruba culture and heritage.
Governor Makinde, in his address, underscored the importance of the Alaafin’s stool, emphasizing its symbolic value not only to the people of Oyo town but to the entire Yoruba race. “The Alaafin’s throne represents the rich history, cultural heritage, and unity of the Yoruba people. It is not just a position of leadership but a symbol of the enduring strength of our traditions,” the governor said.
The governor expressed confidence in Oba Owoade’s ability to uphold the legacy of the throne and lead the Oyo Kingdom into a new era of progress and unity. He further called on the people of Oyo to support their new monarch in fostering peace, development, and cultural preservation.
