There seems an uneasy calm in Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as plans by the immediate past governor of the state, Ayo Fayose and some elders of the party to pick a consensus candidate ahead of party’s congress, coming up on April 2, has been rejected by majority of party members.
TheView gathered that the arrangement, mooted by Fayose’s camp is in favour of an anointed chairmanship candidate, Bisi Kolawole, to emerge as a consensus candidate in order to take over the party’s structure ahead of the 2022 governorship election in the state.
Recall that the PDP in Ekiti State has for some time been polarised over leadership issue between Fayose and Senator Biodun Olujimi.
The Oguntuase-led state working committee, SWC,of the PDP, in a statement on SUnday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Jackson Adebayo, said the plan was ill-motivated and ill-conceived, describing it as unacceptable.
Fayose was said to have met his loyalists on February 21 at the home of one of the party’s leaders, Senator Clement Awoyelu, in Ado-Ekiti, where the arrangement of a consensus chairmanship candidate was conceived.
Recall that he was also said to be making arrangements to dump the party if his candidate fails to pick the chairmanship slot in the coming congress.
