The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to challenge the outcome of the Edo State Governorship election in court.
The party is calling for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review the results and declare their candidate, Asue Ighodalo, the winner.
The PDP claims that the results from the polling units show that Ighodalo won the election, but the figures were altered during the state collation exercise in favor of the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
The PDP acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, stated that the party will test the judiciary’s preparedness to do justice and ensure that the will of the people of Edo State is respected.
The party also accused the APC of compromising INEC officials and security operatives to subvert the election.
The PDP’s move comes after INEC declared Okpebholo the winner of the election with 291,667 votes, against Ighodalo’s 247,566 votes.
- The Labour Party candidate, Olumide Akpata, has also dismissed the election as a “transaction” and a “democratic sacrilege”.
The Centre for Democracy and Development has called for INEC to review the results due to discrepancies.
It’s worth noting that the election has been marred by controversy, with reports of violence, intimidation, and vote-buying.
The PDP’s move to challenge the outcome is seen as a bid to ensure that the democratic process is respected and the will of the people is upheld.
