Bullet Repellant Charm: Palm Wine Tapper In Police Net As Herbalist’s Son Lands In Hospital

Mild drama ensued at Aba-Oyo, along Idi-igba road, Olorunda in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo state on Tuesday, when a palm wine tapper, Akinyemi Akinlolu, shot a 12-year-old boy, identified as Vezan, while test running a bullet repellant charm.
The 40-year-old palm wine tapper, who was said to be a friend to Vezan’s father, Daniel Qudus, a Republic of Benin citizen, reportedly shot at Vezan, who was fortified with a bullet repellant charm on the instructions of Qudus .
Qudus was said to have prepared the charm and to assure every one of its potency or otherwise, had asked that his son should be used as a guinea pig.
Trouble started when the palm wine tapper opened fire on Vezan, who was wearing the bullet repellant, hitting the boy in the chest and hand. The impact of the bullet led the 12-year-old boy shouting for help, thus attracting their neighbours; who quickly alerted the police before rushing the poor boy to the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan for treatment.
Meanwhile, the police had arrested three suspects, including Qudus, Vezan’s father, in connection with the incident.
Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Lawrence FAdeyi, confirming the development said, “It was a case of attempted murder against one Venzan Qudus, a 12-year- old boy, who was shot with a dane gun on his chest and hand by one 44-year-old Akinyemi Akinlolu, on the instruction and in the presence of his own father, one Daniel Qudus.
“It occurred at Aba-Oyo Olorunda area of Olorunda while testing the efficacy of a newly acquired bullet repellant charm. Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. Victim has been transferred to UCH for treatment.”
