Gunmen have brutally murdered Oluwatosin Onamade, a chairmanship aspirant for Ijede Local Council Development Area under the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
According to sources, the assailants, dressed in black, ambushed Onamade outside his residence on Oluwatosin Onamade Street around 9 p.m. on Saturday. His brother, Oluwafemi Onamade, revealed that the attackers first opened fire, but when the bullets failed to penetrate, they resorted to machetes, inflicting fatal wounds on his head and face.
Speaking in distress, Oluwafemi disclosed that the deceased had long been a target due to his political ambitions. He recalled a previous attempt on his brother’s life in 2021, which he miraculously survived, though one of his staff members, Ifeanyi Godfrey, was killed during that attack.
Oluwatosin had previously narrated his 2021 ordeal, describing how armed assailants attacked his residence, destroyed his campaign materials, and killed his campaign executive, Ifeanyi Godfrey, before dumping his body in a coffin at a funeral home. He had also accused political rivals of orchestrating the attacks to eliminate him.
A close friend of the deceased, who chose to remain anonymous, lamented that despite previous failed assassination attempts, Onamade’s killers had finally succeeded. He called on authorities to ensure justice and end the violent political atmosphere in Ijede.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the police were aware of the incident and that investigations were ongoing.
Meanwhile, the APC leadership in Lagos and Ijede LCDA has yet to release an official statement regarding the assassination.
