Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed allegations that senators received $15,000 bribes to support the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. He described the claims as baseless and part of a smear campaign against his leadership.
Responding to rumors about dollar disbursements at his residence during fast-breaking events, Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, clarified that such gatherings are routine and should not be misinterpreted.
Amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, Akpabio has pledged to mobilize Niger Delta senators to help mediate and restore peace in the state.
These developments come as the Senate recently passed a vote of confidence in Akpabio’s leadership, despite other controversies, including allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Reaffirming his position on the bribery allegations, Akpabio emphasized that his regular Ramadan gatherings are being misrepresented and should not be linked to any corrupt dealings.
