hi

In a troubling incident in Akwa Ibom State, a 13-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly bringing his father’s firearm to school and threatening to shoot his fellow students.

The event occurred at St. Paul Primary School in Ikot Ibiok, located in the Eket Local Government Area. Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Baba Mohammed Azare, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing in Uyo on Wednesday, also revealing that the teenager’s father, whose gun was involved in the threat, has been detained.

According to Commissioner Azare, the police were notified on January 30, 2025, after the boy, identified as Samuel Sunday, was seen carrying a locally made pistol at school on January 28, 2025. The teenager admitted that he found the firearm in his father’s bedroom wardrobe in November 2024. Following his confession, his father was arrested.

This case is part of a broader series of police operations addressing criminal activities within the state. Azare also mentioned the arrest of another suspect, Abasifreke Udo Thomas, who was apprehended for shooting a woman in December 2024. A locally made pistol was recovered from Thomas as well, and investigations into both cases are ongoing.

Authorities have pledged to continue their efforts to address these serious issues and ensure the safety and security of the community.
